Xiangcheng No. 2 Experimental Middle School

Category:

Education and Healthcare Facilities

Product Description

The Ministry of Education recently issued the “Notice on Ensuring Effective Educational Teaching and Epidemic Prevention and Control during the Autumn Semester of 2020,” requiring all schools to meticulously plan the start of the autumn semester in accordance with principles such as “differentiated arrangements by region, level, time, and peak periods” and “local coordinated management,” so as to fully restore normal educational and teaching order.

The Xiangcheng District No. 2 Experimental Middle School, located north of Runyuan Road and east of Qimen North Avenue in Yuanhe Subdistrict, Xiangcheng District, has now been fully completed, with all completion procedures finalized, and is slated to be put into use.

Panoramic aerial view

The project is undertaken by the Xiangcheng District Education Bureau, with a total land area of 46,961 square meters and a total floor area of 50,339.01 square meters. The facility is configured to accommodate junior and senior high school students, featuring 16 teaching tracks and 48 classes, along with six preparatory classes. The library, laboratory building, administrative building, and teaching buildings are five stories tall, while the cafeteria and the arts-and-sports building are four stories high, with a maximum building height of 20 meters.

Our firm undertakes full‑scope design services—covering architecture, landscape, and master planning—throughout all phases, from conceptual design to preliminary design and construction documentation. We rigorously and comprehensively translate design concepts into reality, ensuring that the finished project is every bit as compelling as the renderings. From a distance, it exudes an unmistakable international flair.

1# North Facade Main Entrance

In accordance with the planning requirements, the school’s main entrance is located on the north side of the site, with a central plaza serving as the campus’s primary entry point. A vibrant color scheme has been adopted, punctuated by bright accents, ensuring both a cohesive sense of spatial unity and a dynamic, non‑monotonous campus environment.

2# Secondary Entrance on the East Facade

From the very outset, our design has sought to create a campus with clearly defined, well‑organized, economically viable, and aesthetically pleasing functional zones. In the design process, we have embraced both unity and diversity—whether in the master plan and floor‑plate layouts or in the façade—and, while maintaining color harmony and overall consistency, we have strived to infuse the architecture with visual interest, avoiding monotony and uniformity.

Corridor Culture Corner

Single-purpose teaching spaces can no longer meet the growing demand in contemporary education for interdisciplinary integration and for multifunctional environments that emphasize ecological sustainability and experiential learning. At key landscape nodes across campus, we have introduced iconic structures and architectural features—such as clock towers, cultural walls, historical corridors, and knowledge galleries—to create a human-centered campus environment that is pleasantly scaled, ecologically sound, and rich in cultural identity.

The building’s floor plan design thoroughly accounts for various factors, including mechanical rooms, pipe shafts, outdoor and rooftop air-conditioning units, and common areas, while also prioritizing internal circulation and accessibility. It is designed to align with the habits and needs of its users, such as students and faculty.

All offices, meeting rooms, and classrooms are equipped with fresh-air ventilation systems.

Drawing on Xiangcheng’s unique natural and cultural resources, the school is founded on “Yangcheng Culture,” embracing its threefold significance. Committed to a well-rounded education, it strives to meet each student’s individual developmental needs, ensuring that every learner enjoys a healthy, joyful, confident, and upward‑moving school experience.

Secondary Entrance Landscape

While refining the original architectural design, it is essential not only to comply with planning requirements and applicable current design codes and standards but also to take into account the economic efficiency of both the architectural and structural systems.

Exterior building services are concealed wherever possible to ensure a clean and uncluttered façade. High‑performance, energy‑efficient materials and technologies are selected for the exterior walls, windows and doors, and the roof. By integrating ecological and energy‑saving green‑building principles, the campus achieves an eco‑friendly, low‑energy design.

North Elevation of the Comprehensive Building

With the exception of a few ancillary spaces, the primary functional areas are oriented north–south, ensuring appropriate building setbacks.

Designing a school is not merely about creating a physical architectural space; it is also, through the deliberate shaping of place, an invitation to embark on a fresh exploration of educational approaches and organizational models.
