Product Description

I. Base Overview

The project site is located at Plot No. 8, Caixiang Road, Gusu District, Suzhou, bounded by Jinmen Road to the south, Caixiang Road to the west, and Tongjing North Road to the east, with a total land area of 13,840 square meters.

II. Overall Layout

In terms of the overall site layout, the design primarily employs a formal, grid‑based arrangement, complemented by a naturalistic approach that respects the existing topography, thereby harmonizing order with spontaneity and creating a welcoming environment for patients.

The new above-ground structures comprise an outpatient and inpatient building, a parking garage, and an ancillary building, while the underground portion features a two‑level basement. The total floor area amounts to 63,014.66 square meters. The outpatient and inpatient building is oriented with its main façade facing south, and the parking garage, located on the north side adjacent to a major urban thoroughfare, provides convenient access to medical services.

Hospital Parking System

Courtyard Space Design

By designing enclosed and semi-enclosed courtyard spaces in accordance with the layout and daylighting requirements, the building’s volumetric composition and formal expression are enriched. To break away from the typically sterile atmosphere of conventional hospitals, the courtyard landscape has been a key focus of this design.

The courtyard design is named with distinct themes across three separate zones, with the semi‑enclosed green courtyard serving as a dedicated space for patient rest and leisure. From the conceptual stage, the project sought to consider the visual experience and spatial organization from the perspectives of patients and other users, aiming to create an atmosphere that effectively eases patients’ anxiety—this approach lies at the heart of the design’s creative vision.

Hospital Lobby Design

The lobby is the first space patients encounter; its design employs voids to create an open, spacious, and grand atmosphere, thereby reinforcing a striking hospital identity.

Outpatient Unit Design

The outpatient department handles the highest volume of patient traffic, and the flow characteristics of this patient population significantly influence its functional layout.

Triage, registration, payment, and medication dispensing constitute the public areas, which experience the highest patient traffic and serve as the interface between the outpatient clinics and the outside world. These functions should be located at the front of the outpatient department. The waiting area lies between the public spaces and the consultation rooms; after completing their clinical activities in the consultation room, patients typically follow one of two paths: either returning to the public areas to pay and collect medications, or proceeding to the medical technology departments for diagnostic tests or treatment.

Color Design Concept

When we think of hospitals, the image that often comes to mind is one of stark, monochromatic white—reinforced by an array of medical equipment and the lingering scent of disinfectant. To counter this sense of coldness, this design introduces a color‑based approach, applying comprehensive chromatic strategies across medical attire, equipment, and spatial environments. For instance, pediatric areas employ vibrant, multi‑hued palettes tailored to children’s developmental needs, while operating rooms feature blue tones to help reduce eye strain among healthcare staff.
