/ Background and Current Situation Analysis /
This project is the headquarters building of Suzhou Chaokang Textile Technology Co., Ltd., primarily dedicated to technological development, technical services, technical consulting, and technology transfer in the textile technology sector, as well as the research and development of nanomaterials, biomedical materials, and related fields.
The project site is located in the centralized industrial zone of Suzhou Industrial Park, north of Chuangyuan Road and west of Jinshang Road. Situated near the ring road, it enjoys convenient transportation and efficient logistics, thereby enhancing industrial competitiveness. The total land area is 13,300.81 square meters, with a total floor area of 41,421.96 square meters and a plot ratio of 2.46.
On the site master plan, office and factory building layouts are configured in accordance with surrounding road traffic, visual corridors, and landscape presentation areas.
/ Design Concept /
The headquarters building of this project comprises 11 floors and has a height of 49.60 meters.
At the main entrance, visitors are greeted by a design that is both ecologically sound and aesthetically pleasing, while also contributing to environmental sustainability—underscoring the company’s commitment to social responsibility.
The entrance plaza highlights the company’s cultural identity while providing a turning area for loading and unloading at the workshop gates. While ensuring compliance with the minimum fire separation distances between buildings, the remaining parcels within the red line are reconfigured and subdivided.
“A simple and functional headquarters building” is the guiding principle behind this design. At every systemic level of the plan, this vivid structural composition is rendered with striking clarity, showcasing a freely unfolding spatial configuration, a well-balanced and dynamic planning framework, and a spatial environment that aligns with the technological workflow—thus articulating an aspiration for the distinctive creative ethos inherent in contemporary scientific and technological advancement.
/ Design Challenges /
In discussions with the owner, it was agreed that, for the office area, the equipment platform must prioritize ventilation and be positioned independently on either side of the building, ensuring three-sided airflow. For the factory area, it is recommended that vertical circulation—namely, stairways and elevators—be located on the east and west sides, with the west side serving as the main entrance. The integration of the office‑area equipment platform with the factory‑area stairways and elevators has emerged as a key design challenge.
The building’s façade, designed to harmonize with the adjacent Jin Tanglang headquarters, employs a volumetric interlocking architectural approach. In terms of façade detailing, it draws on the company’s textile heritage, incorporating the “silk thread” design concept to create continuous, linear window motifs that run along the exterior.
Modern yet imbued with distinctive symbolic meaning, it seamlessly integrates into its surroundings while showcasing a unique architectural character.
High-rise office spaces along the street further enhance the city’s appeal by showcasing premier corporate brands.
To highlight the distinctive architectural character of a research-and-development office, the design—ranging from the overall style to the smallest details—adheres to principles of modernity, innovation, and simplicity. The entire campus is dominated by white and blue-gray tones, creating a harmonious and elegant color scheme that enhances the overall aesthetic.
